In early October, I began a discussion with the Society for Information Display (SID) group on LinkedIn by posing the question: Any opinions on how the SID Display Week show in Boston (June 4-8) is going to be next year? It’s generated quite a response, with additional postings daily as I write this. (See http://tinyurl.com/3vhkej7 .) We think it’s important to be active in professional discussion groups about topics that impact our clients, and this one’s turned out to be quote a conversation starter.

Macrovision wins another GOCANBO Award

GOCANBO? It stands for the Got Our Client A New Business Opportunity award. You won’t see it in Advertising Age or PR Week. These awards are not handed out in staged ceremonies where people get together to congratulate one another about how wonderful they are. There’s no plaque on our wall. Just an FYI from one of our valued clients that an article resulting from an interview we set up for them with one of our EOEM editorial contacts has resulted in a major auto manufacturer (you’d recognize the name in a heartbeat) contacting them about a important new program. They’re thrilled. So are we. That’s the kind of award we like to get. No trophy necessary.

Almost forgot to mention how successful SID 2011 in beautiful Los Angeles was — PR-wise — for Macrovision and our clients, Endicott Research Group, Global Lighting Technologies and Dontech. They met with top industry journalists like Ken Werner, Alfred Poor and Bob Raikes, and the post-show press was very gratifying. We didn’t do badly at LightFair either (in lovely Philadelphia, the same week as SID), but that’s for another Group!

Macrovision Clients A Hit at SID 2010!

Macrovision clients Global Lighting Technologies, Endicott Research Group and Dontech Inc. met with a total of more than two dozen key journalists, editors and analysts at the Socirty for Information Display’s Display Week 2010, May 23-28, in Seattle. The videos and new product announcements posted on ECN’s LateWire E-Newsletter during the show (resulting from interviews arranged by Macrovision) resulted in a total of 251 leads for our clients.

Miles Davis Quintet 1965-68

I just worked out the opening chords & melody before I found this, then went in a different direction than Shorter did with the Miles Davis Quintet. He’s a genius. The 65-68 Miles Davis Quintet was the best jazz ensemble ever. Jazz as chamber music. Beautiful, especially the slower stuff, especially Wayne Shorter’s tunes (which usually comprised half the LPs’ material.)

Yesterday, I worked out the piano part to Upper Egypt by Pharoah Sanders (I think). That’s two days in a row at the piano. I just wish I had a better instrument. A Bosendorfer grand would be nice.
Anyway, I’m not trying to push the complete studio recordings that the URL here will take you to. But go go to iTunes or wherever and download a couple, like Iris or Fall. Check out what was arguably the best jazz ensemble ever.

What are engineers doing to evaluate all of the new LED-backlit LCDs from the major OEMs?

One solution might be a development kit that provides everything needed to get the panel, backlight and LED driver fully operational. This could include the appropriate LED driver card, flying lead input harness or controller board-to-driver input harness, and a direct mate LED Driver-to-LCD interconnect wiring harness (where applicable). Each kit ideally would be designed for a specific LED-backlit LCD from a particular manufacturer. More info is available at www.ergpower.com.
